Awesome news!

I was on Google Reader this morning browsing my favorite blog subscriptions when I saw an entry titled "Free Money! I want to give you $10." I was intrigued and read further. You see, Writer Kelsey Timmerman gives away $10 every Tuesday to a charitable cause and writes about it on his blog. Yesterday, he said he would give away $10 to a reader who needed it for a worthy cause, no matter how big or small. I immediately thought of my trip to Peru.

As I mentioned, I didn't see his post until this morning around 8 so I thought I might be too late to be in the running for the $10. I e-mailed him the short version of my story and a link to my blog. After running a few errands, I went to check G-Reader for an update. I got a mention at the top of his blog post! If you read the post, you'll see why he gave the $10 to someone else's awesome cause for this week. He will likely donate to my cause in the future. More on that later. Here's a bit of what Kelsey wrote:

"Giving to Kristi is a two-birds-with-one-stone kind of thing. It exposes orphans to a talented and passionate young woman. And it exposes a talented and passionate young woman to an experience that will likely shape the rest of her life."

I'm so excited that someone I don't even know personally is willing to support my trip to Peru! Especially such a talented writer like Kelsey. If you care about social justice issues, I highly recommend you subscribe to his blog.
